FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – For the second week in a row, lightning delayed the cross country races, and rain soaked the course, adding a degree of difficulty for the Oral Roberts University cross country teams.

As has been the case all season, nothing could slow the Golden Eagles down as nine different runners set personal bests on Saturday morning.  The personal improvements showed in the standings as the women’s team finished 10th out of 15 teams, finishing just ahead of Missouri State and LSU. The men’s team took 12th out of 14, sandwiched between LSU and TCU. Arkansas won both the men’s and women’s races with 31 and 16 points, respectively.

Included in that tally was a 30-second PR by women’s leader Samantha Watson who came dangerously close to breaking the 18-minute mark. On the men’s side, Leif Peterson knocked more than a minute off his all-time best.

Watson’s time of 18:04.6 put her 26th overall as the junior finished in the top-30 for the fourth time in as many races this year. Abby Hoover also posted a personal best, as did the entire women’s team, running 19:03.7 to finish 66th. Cat Klarich (23:07.8) finished 298, while Grace Fuentes (27:28.1) finished 314th. In her first race of the year, Kaylin Moore rounded out the finishers for ORU as she ran 33:22.1 to claim 318.

Jonathan Harper returned to the top of the men’s lineup, breaking the 27-minute mark for the first time in his career, running 26:55.9 to finish 132nd overall. David Batchelder was next at 27:05.3 (145th) and Peterson closed the gap with his huge improvement to finish 156th in 27:14.0. Ryan Masey also showed his improvement with a personal best 27:40.4 for 186th. Cameron Peterson (28:31.6) ran 28:31.6 for 243rd, and Joshua Lee (28:58.6) and Blayne Hisquierdo (30:31.4) each had personal bests on the day and finished 264th and 305th, respectively.

With five races behind them, the Golden Eagles will be off for nearly a month before taking to the course again for the 2013 Southland Conference Championship, hosted in Lake Charles, La., on November 1.
