TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts University women’s soccer team looks to get back on track on Friday evening as they travel to Houston Baptist for a Southland Conference showdown with the Huskies. Kickoff of scheduled for 7 p.m.
ORU (10-4-0, 5-2-0) stands alone in third place after losing 1-0 to Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday. The Golden Eagles entered Sunday’s match locked in a three-way tie with the Lions and Stephen F. Austin.
Two days before the loss to the Lions, the Golden Eagles rolled past Nicholls State at the Case Soccer Complex, 3-1. Kayla Keller netted a pair of goals in the victory to give her eight this season. Megan Giles also scored a goal in the match, as well as picked up on assist on the first goal by Keller.
With 14 career goal, Keller is two away from entering the top 10 in career goals at Oral Roberts. The sophomore has also scored the most goals in a season since Maria Grados scored nine in 2011.
Among the top defensive teams in the conference, HBU (4-8-1, 3-3-0) enters the weekend in a three-way tie for seventh place with Central Arkansas and Sam Houston State. The top six teams in the league qualify for conference tournament.
As it stands, the Huskies would qualify for the tournament because Abilene Christian, currently in fourth, is not eligible for postseason play due to transitions rules.
The Huskies played just one match last weekend picking up a 2-1 victory over Incarnate Word on the road in dramatic fashion. After tying the match at one in the 27th minute, Rebekah Tovar scored the game-winner with 70 seconds remaining in the match.
Despite its record, HBU has allowed just six goals in conference play and only ten goals total on the season.
With five goals in the past two matches, the Huskies equaled their season total from the previous 11 contests. Molly Missimer and Tovar lead HBU with three goals each.
The Golden Eagles head to SHSU for the back end of their weekend trip in South Texas on Sunday. The weekend marks the final road trip of the regular season as ORU hosts Central Arkansas, Northwestern State and McNeese State to close out the season.
