TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts University women’s soccer sophomore Maddie Rhodes received the first individual honor of her career on Tuesday as she was named the Southland Conference Goalkeeper of the Week.
Jennifer Abernathy received an honorable mention for Offensive Player of the Week, while Kaily Cox received an honorable mention for the defensive award. Cox was named the Defensive Player of the Week back on Sept. 24.
Rhodes, a native of Tulsa, Okla., earned a shutout on Friday as the Golden Eagles topped Houston Baptist on the road 2-0, followed by a 2-1 double-overtime victory at Sam Houston State. Rhodes made 10 saves in the weekend matches, including two key saves in the second extra period against the Bearkats.
Moving into the starting role prior to kickoff against Oklahoma, Rhodes has started 11 matches this season for the Golden Eagles. She has allowed only nine goals, and her goals against average of 0.75 is on pace for a single season school record.
ORU (12-4-0, 7-2-0) is locked in a tie for second place with Southeastern Louisiana in the league race with three matches remaining. On Friday, the Golden Eagles are set to host Central Arkansas at 7 p.m., followed by a showdown on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Northwestern State at the Case Soccer Complex.
