Abernathy, Cox listed on NSCAA All-Central Region teams
TULSA, Okla. – A day after the Oral Roberts University women’s soccer team received the team academic award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of American, Jennifer Abernathy and Kaily Cox earned individual honors from the organization.
Abernathy continues to accumulate postseason awards as she was named a First Team All-Central Region midfielder, while Cox was named a Third Team defender. ORU was the only program in Oklahoma to have multiple individual winners on the Div. I All-Central teams.
A native of Broken Arrow, Okla., Abernathy led the Golden Eagles in her senior campaign with nine goals and nine assists. She finished her four-year career fourth in program history in goals (21), sixth in assists (17), fifth in points (59) and second in shots taken (234). Abernathy was a First Team All-Southland Conference selection, as well as an All-Southland Tournament team honoree.
Abernathy was named to the All-Central Third Team in 2012.
Cox made a huge impact in her first season along the Golden Eagle backline, helping her to the All-Central Third Team selection. The Tulsa, Okla., native anchored the ORU defense that was in the top three in the conference in most defensive categories. She was honored by the league as the Southland Newcomer of the Year and on the All-Southland First Team.
ORU (15-4-1) finished the season with a school record 15 victories and a Southland Conference Tournament semifinal appearance.
