The Golden Eagles dominated the match, out-shooting the Trojans 21-10 including 12-5 in shots on-goal. ORU goalkeeper Amanda Wheeler made five saves en route to her eighth career shutout.
Soto gave ORU a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute when she took a pass from Jordan Parsons on the right side and scored from 18 yards out.
Soto assisted on the clincher when she and Whitney Booth teamed on a counter-attack, with Booth feeding Maria Grados for the goal with just nine seconds left in the match.
UALR keeper Jane Picarelli made nine saves but it wasn’t enough to prevent ORU from securing its second straight season-opening victory.
The Golden Eagles return to action when they face Northwestern (La.) State, 1 p.m., Sunday the University of Tulsa.
