Halsmer Leads Women's Soccer Past Northwestern State, 3-1

Mary-Kate Halsmer scored a pair of goals on Sunday.

TULSA-Freshman Mary-Kate Halsmer scored a pair of goals to lead Oral Roberts to a 3-1 victory over Northwestern (La.) State, Sunday at the University of Tulsa's Hurricane Stadium.

Halsmer's goals came less than five minutes apart in the second half. With ORU (2-0-0) trailing 1-0, Halsmer scored from five yards out in the 54th minute off a pass from Jennifer Abernathy. Halsmer gave ORU a 2-1 lead in the 59th minute with a header from 12 yards away. Whitney Brannan recorded the assist.

Lorena Soto sealed the game with three seconds remaining on the clock, scoring off a pass from Jennifer Parsons at 89:57.

Ashlee Savona gave the Demons (0-2-0) a 1-0 lead with a goal less than four minutes into the contest.

ORU goalkeeper Amanda Wheeler continued her strong early-season play, stopping three of Northwestern's eight shots.

ORU out-shot the Demons 12-8, with seven of the shots coming on goal.

The Golden Eagles return to action when they face Tulsa, 7:35 p.m., Sunday, August 29.
