Women's Soccer Snaps Skid with 3-1 Win over Lamar

LUBBOCK, Texas-Whitney Brannan scored a pair of goals to lead Oral Roberts to a 3-1 win over Lamar in the opening round of the Red Raider Classic on Friday.

The win snaps a two-match losing streak for the Golden Eagles (3-2-0). ORU next faces host Texas Tech, 1:30 p.m., Sunday.

Brannan, a freshman, gave ORU a 1-0 lead early when she scored from nearly 25 yards out in the eighth minute. Johanna Sheppard assisted on the goal.

Fellow freshman Jordan Parsons gave ORU a 2-0 lead with her first career goal in the 55th minute, on an assist by Allison Hall.

Lamar (2-3) got on the board less than 90 seconds later when Kari Busch scored to trim the lead to 2-1. But Brannan put the game away in the 79th minute when she struck one from 18-yards out.

Amanda Wheeler turned in a strong performance in goal for ORU, collecting six saves while facing 12 shots. The Golden Eagles managed 11 shots, including seven on-goal.
