Golden Eagles Force Tie in Final Road Match
FORT WAYNE, Ind.--The Golden Eagles will end the 2011 season without a road victory, as they forge a 1-1 tie in double overtime against IPFW.
ORU (6-9-2, 3-3-1 Summit League), got on the board early with a goal by Whitney Brannan in the 17th minute that was assisted by Whitney Booth. The score was Brannan's second on the year. Freshman keeper Helen Erb started the match for the Golden Eagles and played the first half before being replaced by senior Amanda Wheeler. Wheeler played 65 minutes and contributed four saves without allowing a goal.
IPFW (5-9-1, 2-4-1 Summit League) outshot the Golden Eagles 27-12 on the night, but the Mastodons were only able to score one goal. After trailing 1-0 after Brannan's goal, junior Danielle Bishop scored the equalizer in the 43rd minute.
The remaining 67 minutes of the game passed without a goal, and the game ended in a tie.
Senior keeper Kristen McFadden played all 110 minutes and contributed four saves while giving up one goal.
ORU is back in action at home on Thursday and again on Saturday as they close out the season at home against UMKC and South Dakota.
