TULSA, Okla- The Golden Eagles fall 2-1 in double-overtime to UMKC on Thursday night, ending their six game home win streak.
ORU (6-10-2, 3-4-1 Summit League) were officially eliminated from Summit League postseason play with the loss to UMKC. The Golden Eagles lone goal came from sophomore Whitney Brannan in the 66th minute to tie the game at 1-1. The Golden Eagles struggled to produce offensive chances despite controlling possession for most of the second half and overtime. The Golden Eagles were outshot 16-9 in the game. Freshman Helen Erb played the first half for the Golden Eagles, collecting four saves and allowing one goal. Senior Amanda Wheeler played the remaining 60 minutes, also collecting four saves while allowing the game winning goal.
UMKC (8-6-4, 6-1-1 Summit League) secured a spot in the Summit League tournament with the win. A goal by sophomore Taylor Bare in the fourth minute gave the Kangaroos the early lead. The game winner came in the 105th minute when junior Randi Simmons punched it passed Wheeler from the top of the box for the golden goal. Junior keeper Jami Finnell played all 105 minutes for UMKC, securing four saves and allowing one goal.
The Golden Eagles will close out the regular season at home on Saturday at 7 p.m. The team will honor its seniors before the match.
