Erb repeats honor, Parks named top defender
FRISCO, Texas - Following a huge victory over Oklahoma on Sunday, 1-0, Helen Erb and Lauren Parks have been honored by the Southland Conference with player of the week awards, league offices announced on Tuesday.
Parks picks up the conference defensive honor for the first time this season after receiving an honorable mention nod twice, while Erb was named the conference's top goalkeeper for the second consecutive week.
In route to her third shutout of the season, Erb, a native of Tulsa, played a great match between the posts for the Golden Eagles, sending back eight Sooner shots. The eight saves in Sunday's contest brought her total up to 34 on the season.
A native of Edmond, Okla., Parks anchored a Golden Eagle defense that shutout the Sooners, helping ORU to its first victory over a Big 12 opponent since the 2005 season.
Megan Giles received offensive honorable mention for matches through Sept. 9. Giles scored the game winning goal in the 68th minute against the Sooners, and had another solid look at goal in the first half.
The Golden Eagles (3-3-1) look to build off the victory in Norman as coach Ryan Bush's squad heads up-town to take on local rival Tulsa on Friday. The match on the TU campus is set to begin at 7:30.
