ORU women eye Golden Hurricane on Friday
TULSA, Okla. - The Oral Roberts women's soccer team is poised to build off the momentum following a victory over Oklahoma this past Sunday as they look to snap a four game winless skid over cross-town rival Tulsa on Friday. The Golden Eagles and Golden Hurricane will kick off on the Tulsa campus at 7:30.
Tulsa enters the match after winning its last six of eight matches, including a victory over Oklahoma in exhibition play, 2-0. They are led by junior Claire Nicholson and senior Stephanie Aitken who have five and four goals, respectively. As a team, the Golden Hurricane is leading the C-USA in total goals at 20.
It will be a battle of two solid defenses on Friday night. The Golden Eagles are anchored by goalkeeper Helen Erb who earned the Southland Conference goalkeeper of the week for the second straight week and Lauren Parks who is the reigning top defensive player of the week as well. Tulsa opponents have only been scored on twice in regular season play.
Overall, the two programs have met 20 times, with the Golden Hurricane leading the Golden Eagles, 4-12-4. ORU last won at Tulsa during the 2003 season.
Following the rivalry match against the Golden Hurricane, the ORU women head to Itta Bena, Miss., face winless Mississippi Valley State on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. It will mark the first time the two programs have ever faced each other.
