TULSA, Okla. - The Oral Roberts women's soccer program begins its fall break on the road this weekend as they travel to Lake Charles, La., for a Friday evening Southland Conference contest against the Cowgirls of McNeese State.
The Golden Eagles (8-4-2, 2-1-0) are coming off a pair of conference shutouts this past weekend, shutting down Northwestern State on Friday, 3-0, and sending home Sam Houston State on Sunday in double-overtime, 1-0.
Helen Erb was the goalkeeper of record for the shutouts, giving her a total of eight on the season, which has tied a school record for shutouts in a season.
For their efforts in the victories, three Golden Eagles earned Southland honors, including Jennifer Abernathy as the offensive player of the week, Lauren Parks as the defensive player of the week and Erb as the top goalkeeper for the week.
As conference action closed on Sunday, Abernathy has taken the fourth most shots in the league with a total of 42, while Erb finds herself in the top four in each statistical categories for goalkeepers.
The Cowgirls record, 7-6-2 overall and 2-2 in the conference, is a testament to their up-and-down season in 2012. Through 15 matches, they have scored just one more goal than they have allowed, while taking 163 shots. They have also not won or lost more than two matches in a row.
Leading the way for the Cowgirls is the balanced attack of underclassmen, sophomores Sara LaLanne, Haley Lyons and freshman Brennan Moss who all have a combined 12 of the Cowgirls 18 goals with four each. LaLanne was the hero the Cowgirls most recent victory on Oct. 5, scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Nicholls State.
The two programs have not met since the 2003 season, with the Golden Eagles leading the series, 2-0.
