TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts University women’s soccer team is ready to get back on the pitch after six days of training as they host first-year program Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday at the Case Soccer Complex. Start time for the Southland Conference match is scheduled for 1 p.m.

ORU (7-2, 2-0) got off to a hot start in the opening weekend of the conference schedule with a 2-1 overtime win against conference favorite Stephen F. Austin, followed by a 3-0 shutout over Lamar.

Against SFA, Mary-Kate Halsmer scored the golden goal with three minutes remaining in the first overtime, earning the eighth game-winner of her career. Jordan Parsons then stepped up and netted a pair of goals against Lamar on Sunday, while Kayla Keller added the third goal and picked up an assist as well.

Following the victories, Kaily Cox was recognized by the conference as the Defensive Player of the Week.

Entering Friday’s schedule, the Golden Eagles were ranked ninth in the NCAA in scoring offense at three goals a match, while coming in at 15th in total points. A big part of that offense is Jennifer Abernathy who is leading ORU with five goals and five assists this season. Keller, Halsmer and Megan Giles are just behind Abernathy with four goals each.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (1-8, 0-3) is coming off a 2-1 loss on Friday evening at Central Arkansas. Six of the nine matches the Islanders have played this season have been decided by just one goal, including the first two conference matches as they dropped the opener to Southeastern Louisiana, 1-0, and lost to Nicholls State last Sunday, 2-1.

Opposing offenses have had no problem on the attack as they have taken 88 shots on goal this season. Senior goalkeeper Audrey Baldwin has played well, keeping the Islanders in close matches, as she has recorded 66 saves.

Freshman striker Yvette Franco has been making a case as one of the top attackers in the conference with eight goals in nine matches. The Islanders have netted 11 goals this season.

A victory will give ORU its first 3-0 conference start since they achieved the feat against Summit League competition in 2004.
