TULSA, Okla. – Redshirt freshman Madison Valenzuela was honored by the Southland Conference on Tuesday as she was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week, league offices announced on Tuesday.
Also announced on Tuesday, Valenzuela was named the Southland Player of the Week by College Sports Madness.
A native of San Diego, Calif., Valenzuela recorded her first career multi-goal game in a 4-1 win at home over Central Arkansas on Friday. Two days later, she contributed on a Jordan Parsons goal in the 35th minute en route to a 2-0 Golden Eagle win against Northwestern State.
Maria Stordahl received an honorable mention for Defensive Player of the Week. Previous 2013 honorees include Kaily Cox on Sept. 24 for Defensive Player of the Week and Maddie Rhodes for Goalkeeper of the Week on Oct. 22.
ORU (14-4-0, 9-2-0) looks to set a new school record for victories on Friday as they host McNeese State at 7 p.m., with senior night activities taking place prior to kickoff. With a victory, the Golden Eagles will wait until the rest of the conference schedule is completed on Sunday to find out the final seeding for the Southland Conference Tournament.
