TULSA—Top-seeded Oral Roberts University defeated fourth-seeded IUPUI, 4-0, in semi-final action at the 2007 Mid-Continent Conference Men’s Tennis Championships, Friday at the ORU Tennis Courts.

The Golden Eagles advance to Saturday’s 11 a.m., championship where they will face defending champion Western Illinois for the right to represent the conference in the NCAA Tournament. ORU is seeking its seventh Mid-Con title.

The Golden Eagles (9-7) started off strong by capturing the doubles point. Alexander Dargel and Frank Kaehler defeated IUPUI’s Gabriel Garcia and Gregory Sosa, 8-1, in No. 1 doubles. Tyrone Hill and Cuan Farquharson defeated Javier Saab and Ross Gelhausen, 8-2, in No. 2 doubles.

ORU’s No. 3 doubles team of Patrick Guilliod and Clemens Geercken were winning their match 6-5 when it was halted.

With the doubles point in hand, ORU needed just two singles victories to wrap up the match after IUPUI was forced to forfeit No. 6 singles. Dargel defeated Garcia, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, and Farquharson downed Gelhausen, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 to clinch the victory.

Kaehler was trailing in hs No. 2 singles match and Hill and Guilliod were winning their respective matches when play was halted.

Saturday’s championship is free. In the event of inclement weather, the match will be moved to the Case Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa.
