ELMHURST, Ill. – ORU tennis players Ana Costa and Dmitry Suslov swept the Summit League Men’s and Women’s Tennis Player of the Week awards, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Costa earned her second-career award after leading the Golden Eagles to a 4-1 record last week, including a perfect 4-0 mark to begin Summit League play. ORU outscored its conference opponents 19-2 in the four matches.
The Brasilia, Brazil, native went a combined 6-1 on the week, including a 4-0 mark in singles play and a 2-1 record in doubles action with partner Kristin Gray (Tulsa, Okla.). Costa won all four singles matches in straight sets at the No. 4 position.
Suslov earned his first men’s tennis player of the week honor after winning both matches in an ORU loss at Lamar. Suslov, a native of Novgorod, Russia, teamed up with Dario Beslic to defeat Lamar’s tandem of Horvath and Savkovic by a score of 9-8 to clinch the doubles point. Suslov scored the lone Golden Eagle victory in singles play with a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 win over Savkovic at the No. 3 position.
