TULSA – The Oral Roberts’ women’s basketball team will
play the defending national champion Tennessee Lady Volunteers on March 23 in
the first round of the NCAA Tournament in West
Lafayette, Ind.
ORU (19-13), seeded at No.
16, is led by Summit League second-team honoree Mariana Camargo, Summit League
tournament MVP Rachel Watman, conference Preseason Player of the Year and
all-Summit League honorable mentionee Jenny Hardin and all-tournament team and
all-Summit League honorable mentionee Janae Voelker.
Junior Candace Parker is at
the helm of the No. 1-seeded Lady Volunteers squad, leading the 2008 SEC
champions with 21.3 points per game. Shannon Bobbitt and and Alexis Hornbuckle
also score in double-digits with each averaging 10 points per contest.
The Golden Eagles return to
the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time and second-straight in the program’s
history after winning The Summit League tournament championship last week. This
is the first ever meeting between ORU and Tennessee.
