COLUMBIA, Mo.-With a second straight round under 300, the Oral Roberts men's golf team shot 299 in the third and final round of the COG Mizzou Intercollegiate, Tuesday, moving up to seventh with a team total of 900 (302-299-299, +36), six shots back of Purdue.
The 299 marks the third time in the last three rounds on a par-72 course in which ORU has broken 300, and is the 11th time in 14 rounds overall this spring.
A trio of Golden Eagles led the way for ORU with Shannon Allen, David Holtgrewe and Bryan Boaz all finishing the 54-hole tournament with scores of 225 (+9), tying for 22nd overall. It was Allen (76-75-74) who had the best round of the three with a 74 on Tuesday, while Holtgrewe (77-72-76) and Boaz (74-75-76) each shot a 76 in the final round.
Finishing just one shot back of his teammates, Scott Newell had the best round of the day for ORU on Tuesday, shooting 73 to give him a three round score of 226 (76-77-73, +10), tying him for 28th overall.
Trevor McInroe's 79 in the final round put him at 235 (76-80-79, +19) in a tie for 62nd overall.
The Golden Eagles will now head to Primm, Nev., for the 2012 Summit League Championship on April 16-17 at Primm Valley Country Club.
