FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.-There was plenty to cheer about for the
Oral Roberts track and field program as they posted three individual victories
and turned in a number of season-best performances, Saturday at the John
McDonnell Invitational, hosted by the University of Arkansas.
Jeffery Gibson won the 400m hurdle event with a time of
50.69 seconds, his best time of the year.
Without much competition, Jack Whitt easily won the pole
vault, clearing 5.46m (17-11.00), winning by six inches. Dustin Gehrke's 4.86m
(15-11.25) mark put him fourth overall in the event.
Both Boyea Lockett and Zuva Bvekerwa made the
finals of the 100m dash, finishing eighth (10.93) and ninth (11.44), respectively.
Brandon Williams (5th, 47.31), Jeramy Roberts (ninth, 49.11) and
Michael Roberts (10th, 49.19) swept the top three spots in their
heat of the 400m dash, while John Bradford won his heat of the 400m dash,
finishing eighth overall (48.84). It was the best time of the year for all four
runners.
Former Golden Eagle Andretti Bain, who was running
unattached, finished third overall with a time of 47.03.
The Golden Eagles put together a pair of 4x400m relay teams,
with Roberts, Williams, Bradford and Gibson combining to run 3:11.75 to finish
second to Arkansas. The other team of Roberts, Jarrett Davis, Bvekerwa and
Banks ran 3:21.45 to finish sixth overall.
Clive Chafausipo finished third overall in the long jump
with a mark of 7.66m (25-1.75), but was the top collegiate finisher in the
event.
For the women, Kristen Radcliff won the 5,000m dash with a
time of 16:59.46, more than 30 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
Camila Pirelli's season-best mark of 44.30m (145-4) put her
second in the women's javelin, while finishing 19th overall in the
100m hurdles with a time of 16.02 seconds. Pirelli finished her day with a
seventh-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 12.84m (42-1.5).
Cornesha Wilkerson's time of 11.99 seconds in the 100m dash
put her 10th overall.
Wilkerson also carded a top-10 finish in the 200m dash with a time of
24.41 seconds, her best time of the year.
The Golden Eagles will travel to Wichita next weekend for the
K.T. Woodman Classic, hosted by Wichita State on April 27-28. It will serve as
the final tune-up before the Summit League Championships in Fargo, N.D. May
10-12.
