TULSA, Okla. - Director of Athletics Mike Carter is proud to announce that Oral Roberts University has hired Mark Milner to be the school’s next Head Men’s Tennis Coach. Milner will begin his duties immediately.

“The men’s tennis program at ORU has always been one of our successful teams, and Mark Milner is the right man to lead us back to a championship level,” said Carter. “Mark was an integral part of a very successful program at Metro State, and I have no doubt that he will bring that success to ORU for many years to come.”

“I am honored to be selected as ORU’s next Head Men's Tennis Coach and would like to thank Mr. Carter for giving me this wonderful opportunity,” said Milner.  “I intend to represent the University and the athletic department with great pride, and I am looking forward to many successful seasons in the coming years.”

Milner spent the past four seasons at Metropolitan State University of Denver, where he was the assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s tennis programs. The Roadrunner men’s program went to the NCAA Division II Tournament in 2012, its second trip under Milner’s watch.

Previously, Milner had coached both the men’s and women’s tennis programs at Metro State to the NCAA Division II Tournament in 2009. The men’s team went 8-0 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play that season and made the Round of 16 in NCAA play.

Metro State’s teams had a reputation for success both on the court and in the classroom under Milner’s watch. In Milner’s four seasons, the Roadrunners produced 12 All-RMAC honorees and nine Academic All-RMAC selections. 2012 graduate Lucio Cangiano won the ITA Central Region Singles Championship in each of his final two seasons under Milner’s tutelage.

Milner served as a USTA Club Professional both prior to and during his stint at Metro State, including stops in Texas, Kansas and Colorado. Most recently, Milner was the pro at Rolling Hills Country Club in Golden, Colo., where he taught lessons to a wide variety of age groups and served as the administrator for a variety of events.

Collegiately, Milner spent his final two seasons at Metro State, where he graduated in 2007 with a B.A. in Human Performance and Sport. He was a two-time All-RMAC selection in both singles and doubles play, and he also earned Academic All-RMAC honors twice.

Prior to his playing career at Metro State, Milner spent two seasons at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kan., where he was an All-American in the junior college ranks.

Milner inherits an ORU men’s tennis program that captured nine Summit League tournament titles in their 14 years in the conference. The Golden Eagles will begin play in the Southland Conference in 2013.
