TULSA, Okla.-The Oral Roberts Cross Country teams will again compete in some of the largest and most competitive races in the country as part of their 2012 schedules, it was announced Friday with the release of both schedules.
The men's and women's teams will compete in the same four races to start the season before heading to the Southland Conference Championships, the NCAA Midwest Regional and the NCAA National Championship.
Both teams will again start the season at the Bob Timmons Classic, hosted by the University of Kansas on September 1, with the women going there with the intention of defending their title from last year.
A trip to Missouri State on September 15 for the Richard Clark Invitational will not only prepare the Golden Eagles for the remainder of the year, but will give them a chance to get familiar with the course that will later host the NCAA Midwest Regional.
From there, ORU will compete in the 75th Annual Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla., on September 29, a meet that has grown to be one of the largest non-championship races in the country.
It will not get any easier for the Golden Eagles as they go to one of the other largest non-championship races on October 13, taking on the competition at the Chile Pepper Festival, hosted by the University of Arkansas.
The teams will have the opportunity to claim the school's first Southland Conference Championship on October 26 as they travel to the 2012 Southland Conference Championship, hosted by Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.
A pair of NCAA meets will conclude the 2012 season.
Coming off a season with three team victories and USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors, ORU returns nine runners from last year's team (five men, four women). The women finished sixth in the Summit League in 2011 while the men took ninth.
