TULSA, Okla. - A break from the heat was well received by the Oral Roberts women's soccer squad and the Golden Eagle faithful at the Union Soccer Complex as the team split into separate squads for an exhibition contest on Friday. Dubbed the Blue/Gold game, the Gold picked up the victory, 1-0.
The Golden Eagle defense looked strong as neither team could get consistent looks at goal throughout most of the contest. However, with 4:25 left on the clock, Ashley Martin found Kayla Nsien on a cross in the middle of the box for the lone goal.
"I thought the defense did a great job this evening," said fifth year head coach Ryan Bush. "We have some new, very athletic players back there and I thought they did a really good job."
Bush thought the young players proved they could provide some depth this season, something that will help as they season progresses.
Freshman Maddie Rhodes picked up the victory in goal for the Gold squad, recording multiple saves.
It was the Golden Eagles only exhibition tune-up before kicking the season off next Friday at home against North Texas. The match against the Mean Green is set to begin at 7 p.m. at the Case Soccer Complex on the Oral Roberts campus.
