DALLAS, Texas - A late goal from Kayla Nsien was not enough on Friday night in Dallas as the Oral Roberts women's soccer team falls to SMU, 2-1.
Looking up at the Mustangs 2-0 in the 85th minute, Nsien found an opening and took the shot from just inside the box as she was coming down the right side of the pitch, putting the ball in the back of the net. The Golden Eagles had another opportunity to tie the match just a few minutes later as Lexie Salas took a shot on goal inside the final minute.
However, he story of the evening for the Golden Eagles was the play of Helen Erb. The sophomore keeper was busy all evening long, recording a career high 12 saves in the contest, just two shy of tying the school record for saves in a match.
Unfortunately, the Mustangs controlled the ball most of the contest, outshooting the Golden Eagles, 32-6. Of the six shots, the Golden Eagles put five of them on goal, with Ashley Martin, Jennifer Abernathy and Kayla Keller added one each to go along with Nsien and Salas'.
Taylor Robinson and Kenzie Scovill were credited with the goals for the Mustangs in the 26th and 82nd minutes, respectively.
ORU hopes to break into the win column at the Case Soccer Complex on Sunday as they host local opponent Rogers State. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
