TULSA, Okla. - Ashley Martin scored a goal and picked up an assist in a non-conference route of Northwestern State (La.) on Friday night at home, 5-0.
The two teams will face off again at the Case Soccer Complex on Oct. 5 in a conference matchup. Friday night's contest was already scheduled prior to Oral Roberts membership into the Southland Conference.
Martin's goal kicked off the scoring for the Oral Roberts women's soccer team in the sixth minute as she booted a free kick from about 40 yards out and a little right of the goal. The ball soared into the top left corner of the net past the diving keeper, Brooke Bourbonais.
Despite controlling ball most of the match, the next goal didn't come till the 32nd minute. Jordan Parsons had a great opportunity at goal that was saved by Bourbonais, but Mary-Kate Halsmer was in box for clean up duty, finishing the play off to put the Golden Eagles up 2-0.
Fast forward in the match nine and a half minutes. Martin booted the ball in box from the on a corner, setting up a great header opportunity by Lauren Parks for the third goal of the evening.
The first half was all Golden Eagles, outshooting the Demons 14-2. Both of the Demons first half shots were looks at goal by Ashlee Savona, who added another in the second half, and Jeanette Coronel.
Destiny LaRue added the Demons final shot on goal in the second half.
In the second half, Jennifer Abernathy scored her first goal of the season, finishing a rebound in the box off a cross from the left sideline that was knocked down the Demon keeper. Abernathy finished with three shots on goal in the contest.
About five minutes later, the Golden Eagles put the cherry on top as Megan Giles swung a cross from the left corner to an unmarked Kayla Keller for the goal. The goal was Keller's second of the season.
Helen Erb didn't have to do a lot in goal for the Golden Eagles, added four saves in the contest in route to her second victory of the year.
The Golden Eagles (2-2-1) has a day off before hosting Missouri State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
