NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Oral Roberts men's soccer team fell to 0-4 on the season after dropping its first match at the Hyatt Place Select Lipscomb Invitational to Belmont, 2-1, on Friday.
The Golden Eagles struck first in the 36th minute following a foul on a Belmont defender. Gerardo Salas was called upon for the free kick, putting the ball in the box, setting up Craig Rogers for his first goal of the season.
It was a solid first 45 minutes for coach Steve Hayes' Golden Eagle squad as they controlled the ball on their end of the field. Over the first half, the Golden Eagles took nine shots, five of which were on goal.
Unfortunately for ORU, the momentum was all but crushed as the both teams came out of the locker rooms from the intermission break. Over the first 35 minutes of the second stanza, the Bruins took seven shots to just one by the Golden Eagles.
The match remained tied until the second half as Belmont picked up a pair of goals in the 57th and 69th minutes of action.
Late in the match, Tom Adams had an opportunity to tie it up at two goals apiece in the 83rd minutes, but the shot was knocked down the Bruin keeper.
The victory for the Bruins was their first of the season and the first against Oral Roberts in eight tries.
Golden Eagle keeper Ryan Grashik recorded two saves in the loss.
Despite the slow second half start, the Golden Eagles still outshot the Bruins, 13-12, including a flurry in the final ten minutes of action. Of those shots, the Golden Eagles totaled eight on goal, including three from Adams and two from Cody Lofgren. Chris Kroeze, Rogers and Salas all had one shot on goal.
The search for win number one continues at the Lipscomb tournament on Sunday as they are schedule to face the tournament host at 2:30 p.m.
