TULSA, Okla. - A new home stand begins on Thursday, October 4 for
the Oral Roberts University volleyball team as they welcome the
Cardinals of Lamar to the Kenneth H. Cooper Aerobics Center. First serve
is scheduled for 7 pm CT.

The Golden Eagles (6-11, 2-4 SLC) return to
Tulsa after dropping their last two matches, a 3-0 sweep at the hands of
Stephen F. Austin on September 27 and a 3-1 decision to Northwestern
State on September 29. The losses dropped ORU to 0-7 on the road in
2012.
Junior Libero Bruna Silva tallied 35 combined digs over the
two-match stretch, and she continues to lead the SLC through six weeks
with a 5.22 digs per set average. Junior Jessica Pancratz is also near
the top of the SLC leaderboard, with a 1.26 blocks per set average,
2nd-best in the league. Senior Sheina Fernandes ranks 3rd in the league
in blocks, at 1.20 per set, and 5th in hitting percentage, at .317.
Lamar
has lost three straight matches and is now 9-10 overall, with a 2-4 SLC
record. The Cardinals were swept by fellow bottom-table team McNeese
State on Saturday afternoon, 3-0, for their third consecutive SLC
defeat.
Freshman Cortney Moore led the Cardinals in Saturday’s
loss to McNeese State with 13 kills, three blocks and a .417 hitting
percentage. Junior Sierra Whitaker had an off day in the loss to
McNeese, with only five kills, but for the season the New Mexico State
transfer leads the Cardinals with 2.90 kills per set.
The Golden
Eagles are 6-5 all-time against Lamar. ORU’s last match against the
Cardinals was a 3-2 victory on August 27, 2010 in Edinburg, Texas.
Olivia Ophus and Tatum Fredeen notched 10 kills each, and Laura Taylor
added 29 assists.
Head Coach Justin Gibert is in his eighth
season at Lamar, with a record of 111-123. Overall, Gibert has a record
of 244-167 in 12 seasons as a head coach. ORU Head Coach Sheera Sirola
is 176-122 in nine-plus seasons leading the Golden Eagles.
The
Golden Eagles stay home over the weekend and welcome McNeese State to
the Aerobics Center on Saturday afternoon. Match time is set for 3 pm
CT.
