TULSA, Okla. - For the second time this season, a trio of Golden Eagles were honored by the Southland Conference as Jennifer Abernathy, Lauren Parks and Helen Erb were each named players of the week.
On Tuesday afternoon, the conference office made the announcement that the three Oral Roberts student-athletes picked up the weekly awards. Erb was named the conference top player between the posts for the fifth time in 2012, Parks added the defensive award for the second time and Abernathy was the offensive award winner.
One of the best individual weekends for a Golden Eagle this season, Abernathy scored a pair of goals in ORU's victory over Northwestern State on Friday, 3-0. A native of Broken Arrow, Okla., the junior midfielder also earned an assists on the game winning goal against Sam Houston State in double-overtime on Sunday.
Abernathy took 15 shots in the two contests, ten of which came on goal. Through Sunday's match, she leads the Golden Eagles with 25 shots on goal.
A native of Edmond, Okla., Parks was a key component on a Golden Eagle backline that kept their opponents scoreless and allowing just 14 shots over the weekend. She also got into the action on Friday, assisting on one of Abernathy's goal late in the contest.
The senior also received the same honor on Sept. 25.
Following a weekend when she tied a school record for shutouts in a season with eight, Erb receives the honor for the fifth time in six weeks. In the two victories, the sophomore Erb sent back six total shots, giving her 69 saves on the season.
The Golden Eagles (8-4-2, 2-1-0) heads to Louisiana this weekend to take on McNeese State on Friday evening and Nicholls State on Sunday afternoon.
