LAS CRUCES, N.M.-Off to a great start, the ORU men's golf team shot its two best rounds of the season and finished day one of the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate in seventh place.
ORU shot 286-289 (575) to finish day one at +7 and is just 10 shots back of Wichita State (283-282, 565), who holds the team lead going into the third and final round.
Scott Newell is tied for 13th after shooting an even par 142 (72-70) on the par-71 course, while Shannon Allen and Jake Spencer are tied for 29th after shooting identical 145's (71-74).
Trevor McInroe shot a 77 in the first round but rebounded to shoot 71 in the second, while Spencer Sheets shot 72-76, putting the pair in a tie for 41st overall with a two-round total of 148.
The third round will begin on Tuesday at 8 a.m. (Mountain time). Final results will be posted at www.ORUGoldenEagles.com following the tournament.
