TULSA, Okla. - Oral Roberts University has won six of their last eight matches and looks to keep rolling on Thursday, November 1, when they face McNeese State University. First serve in Lake Charles, La., is set for 7 pm CT.

ORU (12-13, 8-6 Southland Conference) heads into Thursday’s match fresh off of their most dominating victory of the season, a 3-0 sweep of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on October 27. Joana Gruber tallied 12 kills in the win, while Sheina Fernandes added six kills and a career-high nine blocks.

Fresh off of a career-high 22-dig effort against Sam Houston State on October 25, rookie Kylie Johnson led ORU with 16 digs in the win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Junior Bruna Silva had 15 digs against the Islanders and continues to lead the SLC with 5.20 digs per set through ten weeks of play.

The Golden Eagles still sit 6th in the SLC standings, but they are just a now half-game behind the Islanders for 5th and one game behind Stephen F. Austin for 4th place in the league. ORU has clinched a berth in the Southland Conference Tournament.

ORU has a golden opportunity to move up in the SLC table when they face McNeese, losers of nine of their last ten matches. The Cowgirls enter Thursday’s contest with a record of 7-21, 1-13 in Southland Conference play.

Freshman Amber Fryer has a team-best 2.29 kills per set entering the week, while senior Whitney Ellisor ranks first on the team with 3.25 digs per set.

McNeese’s lone SLC victory came on September 29, a 3-0 home victory over Lamar.

The Golden Eagles are 2-0 all-time against McNeese State, including a 3-0 sweep of the Cowgirls on October 6 in Tulsa. Fernandes hit .522 and tallied 14 kills in the early-season victory.

McNeese Head Coach Terry Gamble is in his third season in Lake Charles, with a record of 31-59. Overall, his record is 782-216 in 17-plus seasons as a college head coach. ORU’s Sheera Sirola is 182-124 in her tenth season at the helm of the Golden Eagle squad.

The Golden Eagles finish their final regular season road trip of the year on Saturday, November 3, when they take on Lamar. Game time in Beaumont, Texas is set for 2 pm CT.
