TULSA, Okla.-The first chance for fans to see the 2012-13 ORU men's basketball team in action will be Thursday, November 1 as the Golden Eagles host Missouri Southern in the first of two exhibition contests inside the Mabee Center.
Thursday's game will be broadcast live in the Tulsa area on KYAL-AM 1550 "The Sports Animal." Free audio, and video through the ELIve subscription service, will be made available at www.ORUGoldenEagles.com.
ORU was picked by both the coaches and sports information directors to win the Southland Conference, coming off a 27-7 record in 2011-12. ORU returns two starters (Warren Niles and Damen Bell-Holter), as well as the Summit League Sixth Man of the Year (Steven Roundtree). Mikey Manghum and Jake Lliteras also return, having played significant minutes for the Golden Eagles last season.
As many as eight players could see their first official action in a Golden Eagle uniform on Thursday.
Missouri Southern was picked to finish sixth in the MIAA by the coaches and fourth by the media, including one first-place tally in the media poll. The Lions return all-conference selections Marquis Addison and Jordan Talbert from last year's 22-8 team.
Although Thursday's game will not count in the official standings, ORU is 2-0 against the Lions, with both victories coming in the 1980's inside the Mabee Center.
