TULSA, Okla. - The Oral Roberts men's soccer team, in hopes of making the Summit League tournament, will host Omaha on Saturday night at the Case Soccer Complex in their final regular season match.
Ten minutes prior to the 7 p.m. kick, the Golden Eagle coaching staff will honor the lone ORU senior, John David James, during a senior night ceremony.
With a victory over the Mavericks of Omaha (4-10-1, 2-3-1), the Golden Eagles (4-12, 2-4) will keep their place in the discussion for the fourth and final spot in the Summit League championships. However, coach Steve Hayes' club will need Kansas City to top Western Illinois and IUPUI to beat Fort Wayne.
The Mavs enter the weekend on a five match losing streak, including consecutive 2-1 overtime losses to the top two teams in the conference, Oakland and Kansas City. On the other side, the Golden Eagles have won two of their last three contests, most recently on Tuesday night when they topped Newman at home, 2-1.
In Tuesday's victory over the Jets, Neville Francis and Johnny Chavez each netted their first goals of the season, while Cody Lofgren picked up assists on each play to add to his season total, now at five.
Lofgren and Tom Adams lead the Golden Eagles will 11 points; while Adams has put a team high five balls in the net.
In a 2011 non-conference showdown with the Mavs, Adams netted two goals in a 4-0 victory at home. It is the only time the two squads have played.
Saturday night's visitors are a very young squad, featuring no seniors and just six juniors. They are led on the offensive side of the ball by sophomore Vance Rookwood with five goals and 12 points, while freshman Giovanni Giattino is the team leader with seven assists.
Junior keeper Matt Grosey has started 14 of the Mavs matches this season, earning 59 saves while allowing 26 goals.
