FRISCO, Texas - Oral Roberts University’s Sheina Fernandes and Bruna Silva were named to the Southland Conference Volleyball All-Academic 1st Team, the league office announced today.
Fernandes, a senior from Porto Alegre, Brazil, was a 1st Team All-Southland Conference selection and a Capital One Academic All-District pick this season. The middle blocker led the Golden Eagles with 2.67 kills per set in her senior season, when she posted a .350 hitting percentage.
Fernandes, who majors in International Business, carries a perfect 4.00 GPA.
Silva, a junior, was named Southland Conference Libero of the Year after leading the league in digs, at 5.22 per set. She was also a two-time SLC Defensive Player of the Week selection in 2012.
A native of Niteroi, Brazil, Silva carries a 3.70 GPA in Computer Information Technology.
Fernandes and Silva led ORU to a 17-15 record in 2012. The Golden Eagles went 11-7 in their first season as Southland Conference members and won a pair of conference tournament matches for the first time since 2006.
