NORMAN,
Okla. - Several Oral Roberts track and field members took part in the Oklahoma
Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Norman, with a pair of Golden Eagle women
bringing home medals from the meet.
Finishing as the top collegiate jumper, and second place overall in the event, was
Lauren McFarland in the pole vault, while runner Erin Roberson completed the 800
meter run in third place.
A junior from Rio Vista, Texas, McFarland cleared the bar at a height of
3.96 meters (12-11.75), nearly a half a foot more than the third place finisher
from the host Oklahoma. The mark was McFarland's collegiate best.
Outrunning three runners from conference foe Stephen F. Austin, Roberson
added the third place time of 2:18.36, for her best time by more than a second
in the 800 meter this indoor season.
Adding a medal in the men's long jump at the event was senior Morrie
Turner. A transfer from Mississippi State, Turner placed second with a jump of
7.36 meters (24-1.75).
The Golden Eagle teams will return to Norman next weekend as they will
compete in the Southland Conference Indoor Championships on Friday and
Saturday.
