Okla. - The Oral Roberts track and field athletes wrapped up the second and
final day of the Southland Conference Indoor Championships with seven medals,
including championships by senior Jeffery Gibson and Tyler Banks.
In the men's 400 meter, and event Gibson had won multiple times during
the regular season, the Bahamas native outran Stephen F. Austin's Cass
Brown-Steward, crossing the line with a time of 47.53. The time was nearly two
seconds faster than his qualifying time on Friday.
Sophomore runner Tyler Banks also brought home a conference championship
on the second day of the meet in the 800 meter run, finishing with a time of 1:53.47,
easily being the second place finisher.
Gibson and Banks also added medals in the 4x400 relay as they joined
John Bradford and James Carey for a third place finish with a time of 3:29.63.
Finishing just ahead of them was overall team champion Stephen F. Austin and
Sam Houston State for first and second, respectively.
Madison Reynolds continues her successful freshman campaign with a
second place medal at the conference indoor championships, finishing just five
hundreds of a second behind the winner. Reynolds crossed with a time of 54.79,
her best collegiate mark in the event.
On Friday, in the prelim for the 200 meter, Reynolds posted her collegiate
best mark in that event with a time of 24.84.
Just as Gibson and Banks did in men's events, Reynolds joined up with
Erin Roberson, Cornesha Wilkerson and Marrisa Thomas in the 4x400 relay, finishing
in third at 3:51.04. It was the best time by an ORU female relay time in
ORU athletes will have final opportunities next weekend to qualify for
indoor nationals, held at Arkansas. There is a qualifier scheduled on Friday at
Oklahoma and on Saturday at Iowa State.
