CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – For the second straight game, Nate Goro gets the Oral Roberts going early, but Texas A&M-Corpus Christi answered just as quick, taking the rubber match, 9-3.

Goro got a hold of the fourth pitch of the ball game, clearing the wall down the left field line for a leadoff homer. It was the first time since March 28, 2010, the Golden Eagles had started the game with a home run, and just the second of the season to the left side at Chapman Field on the campus of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

In the home half of the first, Eric Weiss continued his good hitting against the Golden Eagles, doubling to right-center to score Cody Stephens to tie the game at one.

After a solo home run by Jonathan Gonzales and a two-out double by Zach Taylor in the bottom of the third, that scored Brandon Tierney and Zach Taylor, the Golden Eagles added their second run of the game. With Matt Brandy and Chris Williams on base, Austen Colt singled back up the middle to score Brandy.

Brandy finished the game with two hits in three at bats, reached on a pair of walks and scored twice. Logan Domenico, Tyler Boss, Kevin Cho and Williams joined Goro and Colt with hits in the game.

The Golden Eagles added a third run in the top of the eighth, as Colt picked up his second RBI of the game. Brandy on third, Williams on second and Cho on first, Colt reached on a fielder’s choice, pushing Brandy across.

The Islanders went on to add a run in the fifth and two in each the sixth and seventh innings.

Kurt Giller earned his first decision in his sixth start of the season, allowing four earned runs in three innings, striking out four. Alec Smith entered to relief Giller, earning four strikeouts as well.

Southpaw Trevor Belicek was the pitcher of record for the Islanders with his third victory of the season. Gonzales and Stafford each had three hits, while Taylor and Brad Porras each had two.

The Golden Eagles (9-18, 4-2) return home on Tuesday evening as they host Missouri State at J.L. Johnson Stadium. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
