HUNSTVILLE, Texas - Oral Roberts University was topped by Sam Houston State, 7-0, in women’s tennis action on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, ORU’s record dips to 2-11 (1-7 Southland Conference).

The Golden Eagles won the opening doubles match of the day, as Marizanne Bouwer and Haley Martin scored an 8-5 win over Nadia Dubyanskaya and Tanya Postnikova. But the Bearkats (7-11, 3-5 SLC) won the other two flights to secure the pair point. Sheridan Currie and Natalie Petaia won on court two, 8-1, over Tori Dollar and Melanie Marlin, while Maddie Mortimore and Kayla Stevenson downed Natalia Dollar and Rachel Scroggs, 8-2.

SHSU was victorious on all six singles courts, but the top flight match was a battle. Postnikova outlasted Martin, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), to collect the point. Currie followed that up with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Marlin at the No. 2 spot, while Imke Jagau turned Bouwer away on court three, 6-1, 6-0.

Petaia took down Tori Dollar in the fourth flight, 6-0, 6-3, while Mortimore was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Natalia Dollar on court five. In the sixth and final flight, Dubyanskaya won the point with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Scroggs.

ORU will end their 2013 season on Sunday afternoon, when they square off with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
