FRISCO, Texas – For the second time in as many weeks, an Oral Roberts University hitter has received a conference honor as Tyler Boss has been named Southland Conference Hitter of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Junior pitcher Alex Gonzalez was named Honorable Mention Pitcher of the Week.
A junior from Spring, Texas, Boss sparked the Golden Eagle offense during Friday’s victory over Lamar with a 4-for-4 day at the plate, including a two-run home run and a pair of stolen bases.
Boss added a double during game two of the series and capped off the weekend with a solo home run on the first pitch in the ninth inning on Sunday. He finished the weekend with a seven hits, two homers, two doubles, five RBI’s and scored three times.
In the sweep over Lamar, Boss averaged .583, slugged 1.154 and had an on-base percentage of .600.
Jose Trevino was named the league’s top hitter on April 29.
ORU carries its four-game winning streak into Springfield, Mo., on Tuesday as they take on Missouri State in a pair of mid-week contests. The Golden Eagles return to J.L. Johnson Stadium for their final home series of the season as they host McNeese State in a three game set beginning on Friday.
