TULSA, Okla.-With the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds on the horizon, a pair of Oral Roberts University vaulters took full advantage of the opportunity to gain some momentum, competing locally at the Green Country All-Comers Meet at East Central High School in Tulsa.
Jack Whitt, who will begin trying to defend his NCAA Outdoor Championship, stole the show on Saturday as the senior cleared the bar at 18-8.25, breaking his own school record and hitting the World Championship A Standard. Although he had the third-highest vault in the region during the regular season, Whitt’s mark on Saturday is the highest in the region and second-highest in the nation by a collegiate vaulter this year.
Dustin Gehrke also competed on Saturday, coming off a personal best and runner-up finish at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships. Gehrke cleared the bar at 17-6.5 on Saturday, just two inches below his personal record. He will head to Austin, Texas, for the NCAA West Preliminary with the 14th best vault in the region.
Whitt, Gehrke and five other Golden Eagles will head to Austin beginning on Thursday. A full meet schedule, as well as live results and a live video stream can be found at www.TexasSports.com.
