TULSA, Okla. – The offense came alive on Friday night for the Oral Roberts University men’s soccer team as they knocked off visiting Northeastern State 4-1 in the final tune-up match of the 2013. NSU entered the match ranked No. 14 in Division II.
ORU quickly jumped out to a 1-0 lead just three and a half minutes into the contest as Wayne Farmer found Craig Rogers in the middle of the box. Rogers completed the sequence with a header for the goal.
Just seven minutes later, Johnny Chavez added the second goal of the evening for the Golden Eagles. Marco Hernandez sent a cross from just outside the left post to a waiting Chavez who booted it in from six yards out.
The RiverHawks finally got on the board in the 57th minute of play on an unassisted goal off the foot of Jordan Schmoker.
After NSU put in an own goal give the Golden Eagles a 3-1 lead, freshman Matthew Rogers converted an insurance goal after receiving a pass from Chris Kroeze from the right side of the penalty area.
Ben LaCourse recorded six saves for ORU at goal, while Farmer booted a potential NSU goal away as time expired in the first half for a team save.
Matthew Rogers led ORU with three shots total and Chavez added a pair of his own. Tyler Hill recorded a shot on goal during the first half of play.
The Golden Eagles will begin the 2013 regular season on the road as they travel to face Saint Louis. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
