TULSA, Okla. – After falling short in a battle at No. 15 Saint Louis on Friday evening, the Oral Roberts University men’s soccer team looks for a victory in its regular season home opener versus Houston Baptist on Monday. Kickoff at the Case Soccer Complex is scheduled for 7 p.m.
ORU (0-1) dropped the regular season opener 3-1 against the Billikens. Playing defense much of the first half, the Golden Eagles found an opportunity to attack as Tom Adams converted a goal with a minute to go in the first.
Houston Baptist also enters the contest 0-1 after falling in its opener on Saturday in double-overtime against Central Arkansas, 2-1. Freshman Tobenna Uzo broke a scoreless tie in the 55th minute.
Last season, the Huskies closed the season with a 4-10-2 overall record and a fourth place finish in the Mountain Division of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. This is the first season for HBU as a member of the WAC in men’s soccer.
Senior forward Kristopher Tyrpak led the Huskies last season with 12 points, including four goals and four assists, helping him to MPSF All-Second Team nod. As a team, the Huskies lost 11 of 21 goals from last season due to graduation and position changes.
ORU and HBU met last season in Houston with the Huskies getting the best of the Golden Eagles, 5-1. Adams scored the lone goal for ORU in the loss. The Huskies lead the all-time series against the Golden Eagles 3-1.
