TULSA, Okla. – After a pair of blowout victories over Southwestern Oklahoma State and Rogers State, the Oral Roberts University women’s soccer team is poised to continue the momentum on Friday as the Golden Eagles face Oklahoma on the road. Kickoff between ORU (4-1) and OU (2-4) is schedule for 7 p.m. at John Crain Field.
A victory over the Sooners will give the Golden Eagles their second consecutive victory in the series Last season, ORU topped their in-state rival, 1-0, on a Megan Giles goal in the 67th minute.
The match will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Oklahoma and Fox College Sports Atlantic. It will also be rebroadcast on Fox Sports Southwest on Saturday at 2 a.m.
After suffering a loss last Friday against Tulsa, the ORU offense came alive on Sunday against SWOSU in a 6-1 victory. Continuing on into Wednesday’s 8-0 win against RSU, ORU put in 14 total goals, including three each by Jennifer Abernathy and Kayla Keller.
Abernathy leads ORU with four goals and five assists, matching through five matches her season totals from 2012.
The Sooners enter Friday’s showdown after dropping two matches to No. 10 Florida and No. 2 Florida State on the road. In its two victories this season, the OU defense hasn’t allowed a goal, as they shutout Kennesaw State, 2-0, and Texas State, 4-0.
A pair of freshman, Madison Saliba and Jamie Iurato, lead the Sooners with two goals each. The Sooners have sent out two goalkeepers this season with Kassidie Stade logging the most minutes. Stade has started five of the seven contests, recording 16 saves, while Miranda Larkin has started two matches and has four saves.
An ORU victory would tie the 2004 team with the best six-match start in school history. The fifth victory during that stretch came against Oklahoma in a 1-0 overtime win at the Case Soccer Complex.
Oklahoma has the advantage in the all-time series with a 10-3 mark.
